The District Council’s Parks & Green Spaces team and John O’Conner (Grounds Maintenance) Limited, delivered a very different service on Tuesday when they rallied round to ensure the valuable meals on wheels service continued during the recent severe weather. After the meals were cooked by the staff at the Jubilee Centre, the grounds maintenance team helped the Meals on Wheels volunteers when they found it difficult to get out and about in their cars due to the snow. Using their trucks, the team assisted the volunteers to deliver meals across the district. Councillor Sheila Burton, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Healthy Living at the District Council said: “All Meals on Wheels clients were phoned on Monday to check whether they had enough food for that day. Only one elderly client asked for food to be delivered to him. The London Colney Meals on Wheels service were able to deliver on Monday. To ensure the service was delivered on Tuesday, temporary arrangements were made with John O’Conner (Grounds Maintenance) Limited”. Jon Green, the District Council’s Senior Parks & Green Spaces Officer said: “John O’Conner and their staff did an excellent job and made sure everyone received their meals - goodwill was dished out in spades”. Ken Oakey from John O’Conner (Grounds Maintenance) Limited said: “When the call came we all wanted to help - serving the community is what the company is about”. More... |
